My Gluten-Free Hair Care Routine

Let’s talk hair, people! Since becoming gluten-free, this has been one of my biggest struggles. I didn’t want a hair routine that was just okay. I wanted to have the voluminous, healthy hair that made me feel great. I might not know everything there is to know about living gluten-free, but I know what works best for me. There are a few standout products that have made my hair look and feel great, and the best part is that they won’t break the bank.

Now I should clarify a few things. I’m not the only person in my family to go gluten-free. My aunt pretty much pioneered the way for all of us. She hopped on the diet over ten years ago, back when no one knew a thing about it. Since then, she’s helped our family tremendously by educating and showing us that it’s not actually as hard as it looks to eliminate the wheat protein. Without her, I’d probably would have never thought to get rid of it, so I can’t thank her enough.

While she’s always there to help, I still had trouble in the beauty area. As a fashion and beauty writer for Bustle, I’m constantly trying new items, trends, and fads to see if they really work. Unfortunately, gluten also hides in different health and beauty products. I constantly want to try out new items for reviews and articles, but it’s gotten a lot harder in the recent months.

As a part of the allergy, I would get these big sores in my head. I had no idea why until I ditched the gluten and realized it was my hair products. I learned that there’s no point in tackling the diet if you don’t get rid of it completely. By eliminating certain ingredients, I have no scalp pain, the bumps have gone away, and my headaches have stopped as well. It’s crazy what a few good products can do.

verb

For me, the hair line Verb is my absolute favorite. I’ve tried multiple different drugstore and high end gluten free brands. While some of them weren’t terrible, this was the first line that I saw a difference in my hair. It’s been about two months now and my hair is looking and feeling healthier.

I bought the kit from Sephora that came with the moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner. Then when I realized how much I liked it, I purchased a trial size of the ghost oil and dry shampoo as well. The leave-in conditioner is the most standout product for me. It leaves my hair looking great on the second and even third day.

It wasn’t easy to find though. It took me months and a whole lot of Sephora points to find out what works best for me. Now that I know, I wholeheartedly feel great recommending these to other out there.

glutenfree

Verb is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. It’s also certified gluten and cruelty free. There’s argan oil, bamboo, quinoa, and green tea in it as well. While the label says a lot, my body’s positive reaction says even more. Like I said before, I like this so much because it makes my hair look and feel great. That, along with not having harmful chemicals, makes this my favorite hair product of the moment.

First I shampoo and condition my hair. When I get out, I towel dry my hair, spray the leave-in conditioner, and then run a few pumps of oil through my damp hair before brushing and styling it.

But hair products are only half of the fun. I also found some really great styling tools as well. They’re all from the brand Fromm. The hair tools were sent to me, but I absolutely love them. They make drying and styling my hair ten times easier. Not to mention how easy it is to get a good at-home blowout.

item

My favorite is the Hot Paddle Brush. The hairdryer is the best I’ve ever used. It’s quite, quick, and has a setting for volume or frizz control. The brushes are also equally as great. My favorite is the Hot Paddle Brush, which I use to get volume while drying my hair.

Whether you’re going gluten free or just looking for a more-natural hair care routine, I hope this helps you. There’s nothing I love more than finding great products that are good for the body. Do you have any other all-natural hair products that you love? Leave them in the comments and I’ll check them out!

xx.
